Archiving Policy
Nova Integrata: Journal of Multidisciplinary Studies recognizes the importance of ensuring the permanent accessibility and preservation of all scholarly content published in the journal. In line with international best practices and Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan guidelines, the journal adopts a multi-layered digital preservation strategy to safeguard against data loss, technological obsolescence, and other threats to content availability.
1. Digital Preservation Systems
The journal uses trusted third-party digital preservation services to ensure all content remains accessible over the long term:
- LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)
Participating libraries store multiple copies of all published content, enabling restoration in case of loss or damage. This decentralized approach ensures that scholarly material remains permanently accessible. - CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS)
CLOCKSS is a community-governed archive that preserves scholarly publications and makes them freely available in the event of a catastrophic loss. This ensures global accessibility to the journal’s content under preservation conditions. - PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)
As the journal operates on the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, all published articles are automatically deposited into the PKP PN, which provides free, long-term digital preservation.
2. Institutional Repository Archiving
Authors are encouraged to deposit the final published PDF of their articles in:
- University or institutional repositories
- Subject-specific repositories (e.g., Social Science Research Network, arXiv, PubMed Central where applicable)
This practice increases the visibility, discoverability, and citation of the published work.
3. Author Self-Archiving Policy
The journal supports Green Open Access and permits authors to:
- Archive the pre-print version (before peer review) of their manuscript on personal websites or repositories.
- Archive the post-print version (after peer review but before final formatting) immediately after acceptance.
- Archive the publisher’s final PDF immediately after publication, provided a proper citation to the journal is included.
4. On-Site Preservation
The journal maintains multiple on-site backups:
- Daily backups of all website data and files.
- Weekly off-site backups stored on secure servers to prevent data loss in case of system failure.
- Backups are stored in encrypted formats to maintain content integrity and security.
5. Print Archiving (Where Applicable)
Although primarily an electronic journal, Nova Integrata may maintain limited print copies of each issue for archival purposes in the editorial office and partner institutions.
6. Access and Retrieval
Archived material is available without embargo and remains freely accessible to the public under the journal’s open access policy. In case the journal ceases publication, all archived material will remain accessible via preservation networks and repositories
